Assignment 2

Observations of the Site:

Harrison Stadium is a prime event hub for athletes and fans alike. The site relies on it's secluded location, at the base of a hill, to provide a more intimate feel for any event on the field. The use of walls, that wrap around the perimeter, further conveys this closed off feeling. There is one main entrance on the corner of the parking lot and cross-walk, this leads directly to the seating for spectators. The site continues with the same brick material used throughout the Drury Campus. Small structures are dispersed around the site for storage of equipment.

-Harrison Stadium is located at the base of a low sloping hill

-It's location is in constant circulation of cars and athletes

-Safety is a concern with the speed limit at 20MPH and crosswalks for pedestrians

-Connecting the parking lot to the track is the goal

-The site overlooks a part of Downtown Springfield

-Utilize natural light and nature due to its isolated location

Concept Statement:

I am studying the adaptive nature of triathletes, so that I can have a better understanding of the many types of adaptation triathletes go through. In order to convey the theme of adaptation accurately, I will include separate and distinct workout spaces in the fitness center and make each space connect.

Design 2 Concept Statement:

I am studying the different types of transitions that triathletes encounter in triathlons, so that I can have a better understanding of how athletes move to different activities. In order to accurately depict ‘transitioning’ in the design, each new space will be separate, yet easy to transition to.
