Assignment 1

I am studying act 1 scene 11 of Hamilton, where the song “Satisfied” is performed. In this scene, Angelica is giving a toast to Eliza and Hamilton. She talks about how she is happy for them, but then the scene shifts to the past when she first met Hamilton. With the repetitive use of the word “rewind” we see how much she yearned for Hamilton, but now she can’t help but be happy for them. This scene relies heavily on the rotating stage to convey the “rewind” of time. So that the theme of the scene is represented accurately, my plan is to incorporate the element of time in a discreet manner. In order to achieve this notion, there will be two structures; the threshold representing Angelica's timeline, and an open space that inspires awareness of time. The walkway will split into two paths starting at the threshold and ending in one path at the exit of the open space. This design of the pathway symbolizes the set theme of resolution.
